"Miracle": New Running Track in Budapest Inaugurated by World Athletics President
World Athletics president Sebastian Coe inaugurated the running track at the site of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

He said 2,000 competitors from more than 200 countries could achieve outstanding results at the tournament, due to start on August 19.

He encouraged Hungarians to visit the tournament in as large numbers as possible.

Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, who oversees sports affairs, deemed the National Athletics Centre “a miracle”, and expressed his thanks to designer Marcel Ferencz, Balázs Fürjes, who co-ordinated the construction project, government commissioner Ádám Schmit and the builders who constructed it. He added that the organising team of the world championships is also doing fantastic work.

The World Athletics Championships, set to be the biggest sporting event ever hosted by Hungary, is to be held August 19-27 at the National Athletics Centre and on Heroes’ Square, where the street running and walking races will be held.
