Court Orders Vodafone Hungary Sale Contract to be Made Public
The Capital Court has ruled that the contract pertaining to the state’s purchase of a 49% stake in Vodafone Hungary must be made public, in a lawsuit brought by Socialist MP Bertalan Tóth.

The Capital Court ordered the state-run Corvinus International Investment fund to issue within 15 days – while concealing business secrets – the Ft 324 billion sale and purchase contract and the evaluation, business and legal screening reports prior to the transaction.

In addition, the court also ruled that the relevant contract, drawn up in English, must be translated into Hungarian and that the Ft 20 million costs of the translation must be borne by the state “since from the start the state should have concluded the contract in Hungarian.”

As Corvinus bought its 49% stake in Vodafone Hungary, 4iG subsidiary Antenna Hungarian acquired the remaining 51%, in a deal that closed on January 31.
