Traffic on Hungarian Highways Up 13.9% Last Year
Traffic on the highways increased by 13.9% overall last year, while the traffic on the motorways increased by 7.1%, according to 2022 traffic count data published by Magyar Közút, which annually assesses the utilization of individual sections of the Hungarian road network, writes business daily Világgazdaság.

The Budapest ring road is the busiest in the country, with an average of 75,842 vehicles passing through it last year, 12.4% more than in 2021. In the southern section, between Highway 6 and Highway 51, the traffic exceeded 100,000 in 2022; in 2019, the number of daily vehicles just exceeded 60,000.

On the 160-kilometer-long M1, an average of 50,168 vehicles used the road last year, a 13% increase compared to 2021 but still slightly below the 2019 figure.

Its most congested section is still located at mile marker 17, in the Biatorbágy area, where a daily average of 82,000 was measured in 2022, and the capacity utilization was 122%, which confirms that the long-promised expansion of the M1 is justified.
