Centuries-Old Human Bones Accidentally Found in Buda
The remnants of a cemetery in use in the late 1600s have been unearthed on Szász Károly utca, in Budapest’s Second District, mayor Gergely Őrsi reported on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon.

Employees of the city waterworks company were carrying out renovation works in the street next to Mechwart tér when they stumbled upon remnants of coffins and human bones.

Experts from the Budapest History Museum established that the remains may come from the end of the 17th century, at the time of the reconquest of Buda from the Ottoman Empire.

“We are trying to pay homage to the graves so unearthed in a dignified manner”, the mayor said.
