Budapest Tops Local List of Liveable Places

Budapest is the best place to live in Hungary, according to the liveability index compiled by mortgage bank MBH Jelzálogbank.

Pilisvörösvár, north of Budapest came in second, with Pécs entering the top ten in third place.

The list is based on education, healthcare, culture, crime, the labour market, shopping opportunities and the affordability of residential properties in 174 sub-counties and Budapest.

In general, educational, labour market and shopping opportunities are better in western Hungary and the vicinity of larger towns, but it is easier to buy a home in the eastern regions, although salaries are typically lower there.
