'Women's Peace-Making Skills' Highlighted by Hungarian President
“In times of war, the skills of women to make peace are indispensable,” President Katalin Novák said in a discussion at Fehérvárcsurgó, in western Hungary.

“We do not seek conflicts: we have been coded to smooth conflicts out as we do as mothers in our families,” the president said at the event dubbed Talks in the Sándor Palace, this time held in Fejér County. Answering a question, Novák said it was regrettable that “there are hardly any” women serving as heads of state, citing fewer than 20 worldwide.

Novák said all other female presidents around the world had accepted her invitation to meet in Budapest next autumn. “We may have different world views and religions, but there are things in common; and we can lend other women hope that there are no insurmountable obstacles and no glass ceiling that cannot be shattered,” she said.

She added that she would work to make the female presidents’ conference a regular event. Novák said she was motivated to demonstrate to other women that they should not be afraid to start a family because this and a career could go hand in hand. She said she supported fulltime mothers as well as those mothers who also sought success in their careers.

Novák Holds Talks With Fejér County Leaders

President Katalin Novák held talks with leading politicians and officials of Fejér County, in central Hungary, on Thursday, beginning a two-day visit to the county.

At the talks at the Károlyi Castle in the village of Fehérvárcsurgó, Novák said she had got from her German counterpart the idea to briefly move the presidential office outside Sándor Palace.

The same is being done in Hungary now, with the presidential office relocating to different counties, she said, noting that Fejér County was the sixth such location.

Novák said the purpose of her visits to the various counties was to personally learn about the challenges of the given region, the issues faced by locals and things they are proud of.
