Expats Resident in Hungary Can Run in EP Election - If They Are from an EU Member
Foreign nationals can also feature on the party lists for the election of Hungarian members of the European Parliament (EP) if they are citizens of other EU member states and are resident in Hungary.

Under the law on the election of MEPs, members of the European Parliament are elected under a proportional election system by voting for party lists.

Candidates must collect valid recommendations from at least 20,000 voters to run in the election.

All adult Hungarian citizens as well as citizens of other EU member states resident in Hungary have the right to vote and to stand for the EP election.

Hungarian citizens who are not resident in either Hungary or another member state of the EU can also vote.
