The filming “Nuremberg”, a film based on true events, starring the likes of Russel Crowe and Rami Malek, is set to start in Hungary in a matter of weeks.

The film, directed and written by James Vanderbilt, will be a historical drama exploring the psychological boundaries between evil and empathy. The shooting of “Nuremberg” is set to commence in Budapest next month.

The plot will revolve around the relationship of the Nazi top brass captured after the war, and U.S. army psychiatrist Douglas M. Kelley (Malek), who is assigned to ensure that all the captives, are fit for the war crimes trials at Nuremberg.

However, Kelley, while trying to discover a distinguishing trait among the evil Nazi leaders that would mark them as psychologically different from the rest of humanity, realizes that he is on a hazardous quest, as he begins to appreciate and understand some of the Nazi captives, none more so than the former Reichsmarshall Göring (Crowe).

In real life, Hermann Göring committed suicide on October 15, 1946, the day before his scheduled execution, with the help of a hidden cyanide pill.

According to the filmmakers, the production will explore a new aspect of the Nuremberg Trials, told for the first time with unique access to Kelley’s long-hidden papers and medical records.

Joining Crowe and Malek, Michael Shannon (known for his appearances in movies like “Take Shelter” and “Revolutionary Road”) will play Robert H. Jackson, the Chief United States Prosecutor at the trials.
