Christmas Markets in Budapest Now Open

Budapest’s Christmas markets opened on November 14, signaling the start of the city’s festive season. Since then Vörösmarty tér and the area around St. Stephen’s Basilica become lively hubs of holiday activity, with sparkling lights, the aroma of mulled wine, and the sounds of carols filling the air.
Visitors can stroll among wooden stalls offering artisanal gifts, traditional Hungarian treats, and fresh kürtőskalács (chimney cake), enjoying the warm atmosphere that draws locals and expats alike during winter.
This year Advent Basilica is 15 years old. Voted Europe's Best Christmas Market fourth times, and will run until 1st of January 2026 on Szent István Square in Budapest.
Whether you visit the square with family, friends or colleagues, you will be captivated by the authentic Christmas atmosphere.

Everyone is captivated by the bustle of the fair, the Christmas atmosphere, the fantastic array of flavours, aromas and lights.
One of the main attractions of the square is the children’s train, which is free of charge. The laughter of the sparkling-eyed little ones and the inimitable sound of the train are all part of a classic Christmas atmosphere.
