Defense Attache Mark Karas and Cultural Affairs Officer Dmitri Tarakhovsky attended a ceremony honoring Mihaly Kovats on May 10, 2013 in Karcag. Colonel Kovats, a native of Karcag, recruited, trained and led the first U.S. cavalry unit into battle and died on May 11, 1779, in a cavalry charge against British troops outside of Charleston, South Carolina.
