The government considers sports as a “strategic sector and a national cause”, János Lázár, the government office chief, told a weekly press briefing. The achievements of Hungary’s athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympics and in past years will help the country’s bid to host the Olympics, Lázár said. He called Hungary one of the most successful “sporting nations” in the world.

March 15 square hosts Hungary's biggest Fan Centre, where supporters get the chance to watch the 31st Olympic Games on a 35-square-meter screen. Entry is free of charge and it's open from 3 to 11pm on weekdays, and from 10am during weekends during the Olympics, with uninterrupted sports broadcasts (in Hungarian) and various 'fun activities' at one of the city's best locations near the Danube.

The new e-card combines personal identification functions with social insurance and tax information. Interior Ministry state secretary for law enforcement László Tasnádi said the e-card “opens the door to digital processing”.
