October 23 is a national holiday in Hungary, commemorating the 1956 revolution against the Soviet rule, which was later crushed by brute force. The uprising began as a spontaneous nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungarian People’s Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. 415 000 Szitizens At Sziget Festival In Budapest – Together!

Sziget Festival has attracted a record weekly crowd of 415 000 this year. Passes were sold out already before the start of the event and on Thursday there was full house with 85 000 fans on the island. The festival keeps on using the ‘Island of Freedom’ as its slogan and even more efforts were put into the improvement of the visual experience around the festival site.
