Sándor Csányi, owner of the agribusiness Bonafarm and chief of OTP Bank, has kept his top spot on Hungary’s rich list, business news website napi.hu reported. Csányi, whose assets now reach 165 billion forints (EUR 542m), up 15 billion from last year, has been at the top of the list since 2011. (Pictured on the right)

Economist and central banker Alexandre Lamfalussy, born as Sándor Lámfalussy in Hungary, has died at the age of 86, his family said on Monday. A resident of Belgium, Lamfalussy was known as “the father of the euro” and for his financial service industry policies. He left his native Hungary in 1949.

Hungary’s middle classes have thinned during the period of 2001 to 2011, according to a new Central Statistical Office (KSH) study. Ákos Huszár, one of the study’s editors, said data revealed that the share of highprestige professionals, top executives and middle management in the whole population had risen while so had the share of unskilled workers and those at the brim of society.

The sleek, futuristic Zengafons piano, which would not look out of place on the set of Star Wars, will make its public debut at the Budapest Academy of Music.
