“We Will Not Be Silent!” Demonstration Draws Thousands Of Young Protesters

Budapest’s Szabadság (Freedom) square hosted a novel demonstration of sorts Saturday evening. Starting at 5:30 pm and lasting until 10 pm, the “We will not remain silent!” protest featured musical performances by a variety of musicians and DJs, as well as speeches by notable artists and activists. As many as 10,000 people mostly in their twenties and thirties attended.

Two girls were found unconscious in the dressing room of the Canadian electronic duo DVBBS at the Balaton Sound Festival on Saturday evening. The two had been watching the concert from the front row when the two members invited them onstage and then to their dressing room.
Austria Cuts Motorway And Rail Connection With Hungary

On Friday morning, Austria closed the border crossing point connecting Nickelsdorf on the Austrian side with Hegyeshalom on the Hungarian side in both directions. According to the Austrian motorway maintenance company, the closure, implemented for an indefinite period, has taken place for security reasons, due to large masses of refugees heading towards the West from Hungary.

The German government has commissioned Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer, who is music director and chief conductor of both the Berlin Konzerthaus and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, to programme and conduct a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s collapse on Nov. 9.
