By the 1890s many major European cities already had market halls, such as the famous Les Halles in Paris or Covent Garden in London, and others cities like Barcelona, Berlin, Florence and Lyons were to follow this trend. It was around this time that Budapest's councillors thought that the Hungarian capital should also have such a hall.

There are few shopping centers in Budapest that has something special to offer making them stand in the crowd. Allee is not different, so you should probably not travel across the entire city to get to this one, because it is not worth it. But, if you combine it with a visit to the neighbor building, it could suddenly be worth the ride!

Having a free Sunday morning on my hands, a friend and I visited the Szimplakert Haztaji Market. The great ambiance was still there. Almost every seller had samples out to try, whether it be szorp, jam, baked goods, spreads or cheese. All the sellers were friendly, chatty, and proud of their products.

Sunday morning Lydia and I explored the newish Szimplakert Haztaji Piac (open Sunday 9-14, Kazinczy u. 14, VII ker). I cannot stand the crowds at night at Szimpla, so I tend to avoid it. However, during the day it is a much different and mellow place to hang out. They recently started a croft or market garden on Sundays. There is another one popping up at Margit u. off of Margit Krt.
