Hungarian PM Orbán Seeks Barroso’s Aid In Letter
"The cabinet has started redrafting the Central Bank Act in accordance with the views of the European Commission, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote in a letter to EU President José Barroso last Wednesday.

Seeking Barroso’s co-operation in taking the steps necessary to start negotiations with the IMF on a credit agreement, Orbán said the draft addresses most of the points put forward by the Commission.

The government will provide a draft for consultations to the European Central Bank and the National Bank, he added.

“We are aware that the Commission has raised other requests as preconditions to the agreement. I can assure you that the Hungarian authorities will address these questions,” he wrote.

Orbán informed Barroso that his government would submit a bill to Parliament reflecting the findings of the Venice Commission on March 16.

He said the government had begun work on amending the bill on the data protection agency and said the government would send information on the question of the early retirement of judges."
