Increased Rail Links Launched Between Budapest & Balaton - Night Train & More
MÁV-Start launched its pre-season rail service, increasing links between the Lake Balaton region and Budapest on Monday, the state-owned MÁV-Volán group said.

Bicycle transport options are expanding, and more IC cars and motor trains are in service, meaning more seats are available.

Balaton InterCity trains, which run every two hours between Budapest and Keszthely, will have a first-class car and restaurant from May 25. The dining car service offers passengers a selection of cold drinks, snacks, sweets, and a range of coffees.

In addition, night trains will run between Keszthely and Budapest on the south coast of the lake on Fridays and Saturdays.

From May 13, seat reservations became compulsory on InterCity and express trains for national pass holders.  MÁV say it is advisable to purchase seat reservations several days before the journey, especially during weekends.
