MPs Vote Down Planned "Congestion" Fee For Budapest
Parliament on Friday rejected an amendment motion under which a congestion fee could be collected from drivers in Budapest. The motion was submitted by two deputy mayors who are also MPs, of whom Gábor Bagdy abstained from voting while István György voted against his own proposal. It was soundly rejected by 305 votes to 14.

Mayor István Tarlós does not insist on introducing the congestion fee, telling Magyar Nemzet on Sunday that the subsidy contract for the fourth metro line should now be renegotiated with EU officials.

The Ft 181 billion EU funding is in jeopardy after the previous Socialist-Free Democrat leadership and former mayor Gábor Demszky pledged to introduce the congestion fee by late 2013.
