Venice Commission To Comment On Hungary's Basic Law Amendment In June
The Venice Commission will adopt an opinion on the fourth amendment of Hungary’s Basic Law at a plenary session in June, Nepszabadsag reports. The Commission was recently asked by Council of Europe leader Thorbjorn Jagland and separately by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry to examine the amendment passed by Parliament last week.

The European Commission is conducting its own legal scrutiny, whose outcome is expected in a few weeks.

In Budapest Socialist president Attila Mesterhazy said his party will not support any sanction that would strip Hungary of its voting rights or any EU funds, or that would penalise Hungary or ordinary people.
