Hungary's MTVA To Axe Another 177 Jobs
State media manager MTVA yesterday announced that 177 employees will be dismissed in the first half of 2015, citing economic rationalisation, cuts in payroll costs and a rationalisation of operations. Those affected will be 146 staff members in Budapest and 31 in Pécs and Szeged.

This is the latest in a series of layoffs at state media, despite increases in MTVA’s budget every year, to above Ft 80 billion in 2015, Népszabadság writes.

About 900 people were dismissed in the summer and fall of 2011, and a further 200 were let go in early 2013, reducing the number of personnel to 2,000.

The current layoff further lowers that number to 1,800. With so few staff members it is practically impossible to produce all of the content for TV, radio and MTI, Népszabadság observes.
