On Monday, Népszabadság reported that former Fidesz treasurer and former Orbán ally Lajos Simicska would support and help Jobbik face Fidesz at the next parliamentary elections to be held in 2018.

In Népszabadság, Gábor Horváth doubts that Simicska could help to convince the public that Jobbik is a credible alternative to PM Orbán’s Fidesz.

The left-wing columnist notes that according to different sources, Simicska turned to Jobbik after realizing that it would be pointless to support the MSZP as the Socialists have no chance to ever defeat Fidesz. Horváth thinks that Jobbik is not a more credible alternative. He thinks that grassroots civil organizations and movements are more likely than Gábor Vona’s party to “fill the vacuum” in the political spectrum and defeat Fidesz.
