Publishers from 24 countries have bought the rights to film director Péter Gárdos’s novel Hajnali láz (“Fever at Dawn”) the story of how his parents met and fell in love in 1945. After surviving the Holocaust, Miklós Gárdos was in a Swedish refugee camp when he asked for a list of Hungarian Jewish girls who were also temporarily housed in Sweden.

It has been exactly 130 years since the Budapest Opera opened its gates on 27 September, 1884. The Hungarian State Opera commemorates the anniversary of the opening with crowds in period costumes, an extraordinary gala concert, the premier of a film, and the publication of a historical book.

The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. Judgment in Hungary, a documentary about the trial of the serial murderers of Roma in Hungary from 2008-09, has received two awards at the Sarajevo film festival, writes vs.hu. Besides the award granted by the festival’s jury (chaired this year by the retired Hungarian director Béla Tarr) the film also received the Human Rights Award.
