Xpat Opinion: Heavenly Hungarian Wine, Kadarka
- 7 Feb 2013 10:35 AM
- food & drink
New discoveries. That’s what it is all about here...I’m a fortunate man, my Hungarian buddy Zoli keeps me updated what’s going on, on the Hungarian wine scene. When there’s something he believes I haven’t tasted, nor heard of, he makes sure I’ll get the chance. Recently he provided me with something he was pretty sure I didn’t know about. Kadarka. The best ever on the grape as he said.
Rich History & Huge Dishes At Haxen King Restaurant In Budapest
- 31 Jan 2013 10:35 AM

A good indicator of Budapest’s growth in multiculturalism is the variety of restaurants now available. In addition to exotic Asian delights, American fast-food restaurants, gyros or kebab stands, and as well as hearty Magyar options, surprisingly great German cuisine can be found in the heart of the city - and what's more, for over a century Haxen has been serving a mixture of authentic Bavarian ...
Xpat Opinion: Vinowonka Budapest – Chocolate & Wine Bar

With the Corvin shopping center and the entire Corvin project in the eight district of Budapest this area has been changed totally. Where there were just ruined buildings some years ago we can now find brand new buildings, a shopping mall and some nice restaurants and bars. By a coincidence I dropped by Vinowonka – Chocolate and Wine Bar last Saturday and here are my thoughts.

While the maxim "There's nothing much in Buda" holds some water, it usually pours out of the mouths of Pest-dwellers who get queezy every time they get too close to the river. This is a result of budaphobia, which sets in as soon as you start renting a flat in the fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth district. The budaphobe deletes all knowledge of Buda from the memory. They don’t know where Batthyány ...
Xpat Opinion: Nobu Budapest Restaurant, Bad Feedback, & Management?
- 22 Nov 2012 9:45 AM
- food & drink
Nobu Budapest is presently ranked a rather dismal 126th in the independent Tripadviser list of restaurants in Budapest. This comes as quite a surprise since around the world this high-end eatery is usually regarded as a top choice for a reliably enjoyable experience. So what's up with Nobu in Hungary? From the candid bad feedback on Tripadviser it seems (m)any negative aspects relate to the ...
Restaurant Review: Indulging In Hooters Budapest
- 22 Nov 2012 9:35 AM
- food & drink
This week a small group of guys – a couple of expats (our Hungarian wives said we could go) and a local bloke – checked-out the Hooters restaurant at Liszt Ferenc tér. We weren't quite sure what to expect, as it turned out we had a very decent time. The place was packed on Wednesday night with a mostly male crowd, mainly respectable looking chaps in their 30's and 40's, watching football on all ...

After taking a journey into the world of Korean cuisine, we now explore the perhaps more exotic cuisine of the Indochinese. The name Indochinese, which up to a few decades ago was a political region, is now used in its bio geographical sense to characterize the cultural origins of the countries in this ...
