Hungary’s public debt, calculated according to Maastricht rules, stood at 72.4 percent of GDP at the end of the third quarter, down from 73.6 percent at the end of the second quarter, the National Bank of Hungary said in an updated report on financial accounts data released.

Hungary posted a budget surplus of 270.5 billion forints (EUR 868.7m) in the first half of 2017, equivalent to 1.5 percent of GDP, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday. The H1 surplus was up 183.9 billion forints or 1.0 percentage point of GDP compared to the same period in 2016.

The OECD lowered its projection for Hungary’s GDP growth next year to 2.5 percent in volume terms in a forecast published on Monday from the 3.1 percent in the previous Economic Outlook released in June 2016. The OECD however improved its 1.6 percent summer projection for Hungary’s growth this year to 1.7 percent in the autumn edition of the World Economic Outlook.
