November is a time to remember those who have gone before. In Hungary, Imagefamilies visit cemeteries, leave wreaths and flowers, light candles and talk about loved ones they’ve lost. For me, it’s a time to think about Hungarians whose lives were lived in the shadow of war, fascism, communism or poverty, and I am once again grateful to have grown up in peace, freedom and prosperity.
Hundreds Of Thousands Celebrated The Anniversary Of The Foundation Of The State In Budapest

In the evening of 20 August, the day that marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian State, more than half a million people watched the ceremonial fireworks display held on the Danube Banks. The ceremonial events attracted much attention and were held in high spirits; thousands of tourists were able to share the festive atmosphere of one of Hungary’s greatest national holidays.

The celebrations will begin on August 19 when the 'Street of Hungarian Flavours' will open at noon between the Buda side of the Erzsébet híd and Bem tér. Awards will be presented for Hungary’s best cake, sugar-free cake and ice cream. Pop music will play on Clark Ádám tér and on Bem tér from 8pm. The first finds from the Hungarian Conquest period of the 10th century at Nagykörű, a village on the right bank of the River Tisza, 25 kilometres northeast of the town of Szolnok, were excavated in 1891. In the autumn of 2010 the local authority at the village started building a new créche in the village centre and while digging the foundations more ancient Hungarian burials were found.
