Palinka Is Now Tax Free In Hungary
"Hungary will most likely enter the Guinness Book of Records for making the most moonshine (better known as Palinka in Hungary) after the Smallholdings and private homes have been given the green light to distill their own non-commercial amount of home palinka tax-free, as of Sept 27, 2010.

Sources at the Hungarian excise and tax authority VPOP said that the new law allows Hungarians to distill up to an annual 50 litres of 86% v/v and up to 400 litres of 50% v/v palinka for their personal and family use. Anyone exceeding the limit and is caught (during occasional spot checks made by VPOP) will be compelled to pay a whopping HUF 1,380/litre excise tax on their excess."
