Excise Taxes Raised, Brought Forward In Hungary
"The dates for changing excise taxes on tobacco will change from May and November to February and July, under a bill passed by Parliament on Monday. The MPs approved a tax rise of Ft 50-60 per packet of cigarettes, a higher figure than earlier planned, to take effect February 1. A further Ft 15 will be added to the price due to the rise in VAT.

The tax on packets of cigarettes will rise by an additional Ft 30 from July 1.

However, the excise tax on loose tobacco will be increased by a smaller amount, so that a hand-rolled cigarette will cost about half as much as one from a packet. Larger producers do not like such a wide gap, Napi Gazdaság."
