Opposition Groups Closer To Unity In Hungary
Leaders of the Socialist Party, the Democratic Coalition and the Solidarity movement consider themselves committed to joining forces at the next parliamentary elections to defeat the government, they told a forum in Budapest Thursday evening.

Zsolt Molnár, head of the Budapest chapter of the Socialists, Democratic Coalition vice-president Csaba Molnár and Solidarity co-president Sándor Székely said they agree on the need to unseat the Orbán cabinet, as they believe that is the only way of restoring the republic and a state governed by the rule of law.

Socialist Zsolt Molnár said they have not yet run out of time to join forces, although he sees less chance of that happening now than six months ago and he blamed LMP for that.

The Socialists are looking for allies but will be able to defeat Fidesz alone, party president Attila Mesterházy said on M1’s “Az Este” program Thursday night.

The party has grown stronger since Ferenc Gyurcsány left, former Socialist president István Hiller told Inforádió.
