Hungarian Cabinet Submits Bill On Expanding Teachers Salary Increase
The cabinet on Wednesday submitted to Parliament a proposal on extending the salary raise for teachers, to be passed by the House at a special session next week. Fidesz caucus leader Antal Rogan announced on August 6 that he would initiate the convening of a special session of Parliament for August 26-27 to approve changes related to the salary raise of teachers.

This came after Parliament earlier this year passed a law under which only qualified teachers would have received a salary raise from September.

The motion submitted by Human Resources Minister Zoltan Balog on Wednesday extends the salary raise to teaching assistants and employees of child-care institutions.

The salary raise will be 60% of the originally planned sum, and will be followed by a further 10% pay raise every September until 2017.

Legislation passed earlier this year requires teachers to take on additional work and to work more hours each week.
