Official Insists EC Suspected M4 Cartel In Hungary
Employees of the European Commission’s regional directorate signalled to the Hungarian government that a cartel might be suspected in the construction of the M4 motorway, PMO development project communications under secretary Nándor Csepreghy told reporters on Tuesday, thus confirming his own previous comments.

The Commission took no action following Csepreghy’s earlier statement because the project does not receive EU subsidies, a fact which precludes any Commission investigation into the matter.

An aerial video posted on YouTube shows that much of the construction work on the stretch of the M4 has already been done.

According to the estimates of experts speaking on condition of anonymity, some Ft 60 billion in work has already been completed on the Ft 110 billion project.

The government reportedly will order a halt to construction on Wednesday.
