Mahir v. Budapest Trial Begins
Lawyers acting for the city of Budapest were unable to say on Monday what law Mahir Cityposter had violated as the Capital Court began its trial of the dispute between the two parties over advertising columns on city streets. The basis for the city’s argument was that Mahir had not placed its advertising pillars in a proper manner and that it had violated a city decree from 2006 and 1995.

However, the city’s lawyers failed to say which provisions in those decrees were violated. They asked for and received from the court more time.

Mahir lawyer György Magyar again submitted an application for an injunction to suspend the dismantling of the advertising pillars by city of Budapest employees.

The court could rule on that request today, according to legal experts.

Mahir is suing the city for violating a 25-year contract signed in 2006. The trial resumes on March 1.
