Hungary’s Prosecutors Renew MNB Property Case
Prosecutors have ordered police to continue an investigation into the purchase of a property by the MNB’s Pallas Athéné Geopolitikai foundation (Pageo) after police dropped the case. Prosecutors rejected as unfounded the Budapest’s Fifth District police argument that there was no evidence of crime, after a month-long investigation.

Pageo bought a villa at Mátyás király út 44 in Budapest’s 12th District for a gross Ft 1.3 billion in February 2015, although the property was advertised at a price of Ft 950 million.

The seller, Wakefield, is owned by a company registered in the British Virgin Islands.

István Tényi, a private citizen who reports to the police any news that raises suspicions of criminal activity, reported this case to the police in August 2015, based on a report in Magyar Nemzet.
