HUF 800 Tax For Undesirable Persons In A Hungarian Village
The local council in Alsónémedi, Pest county has voted for a new tax. From September those who live in the village but do not have registered work, and the property in which they dwell is not their own or that of their families will be obliged to pay a daily sum of Ft 800 in taxes.

It was clear from the debate that took place prior to the vote that the decree was established with a target group in mind in order to persuade them to depart from the village.

The local councillors did not say who they had in mind but tensions have long prevailed between villagers and Romanian Roma guest workers.
