Ádám Turbucz, General Manager, Mellow Mood Hotels in Budapest
Adam has more than 15 years banking background in corporate financing and also gained real estate development experience just before he joined Mellow Mood Hotels, when the Párisi Udvar reconstruction was launched.

He was responsible for the financing matters of the group and later on become the CFO. Since October 2021 he has been the General Manager at Mellow Mood Hotels.

He is a committee member of the Hungarian Hotel & Restaurant Association and also supervisory board member of this organization. In order to have a deeper understanding of hospitality he recently obtained an additional diploma in tourism studies alongside his original economics degree.

Since the Covid period, Adam has run more than 1000 km per year and is making it a challenge to do this every year in the future as well.

1. Where did you grow up?

In Budapest, in Buda to be exact - because it is an important detail for later.

2. If you could be an expat anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

I have never worked more than 3 months other than Hungary. I would pick one of the Mediterranean cities or another location somewhere in Norway.

3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?

I would miss my family members and friends who are unable to join me after a few days, I'm sure.

I would also miss the language to express myself in the full way I want. I would also miss the special CEE sense of humour also.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?

Walking in the Buda Castle, take a trip in the Buda hills. I have many types of friends so it depends on their wishes. I would never say no for a night out in the city if my friend insisted :)

5. What is your favourite food?

I do not have fixed favourite foods, it always changes during the years but if you would like to invite me, you cannot go wrong with steak and pasta and some soup. Unfortunately, I do not like seafood, even though I taste it from time to time.

6. What is your favourite sport / form of exercise?

I like skiing but it is only seasonal, I run and play basketball. Running is a practical choice as it does not have extra requirements - just the weather and time.

Last Autumn I started playing golf so I'm only in the initial phase learning how to improve my swing.

7. What is your favourite place in Hungary?

You may expect that it would be a hidden place of Buda, but I really like Pécs.

8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

Originally, I was a banker so it is always a theoretical question for me how my career would be if I had not changed to hospitality. Banking is also a very interesting industry, but it is too regulated for me after so many years out of it.

9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?

Working in a bank? :) I would try almost all jobs for a few days or weeks maximum, but I couldn't imagine myself as a baker even though I like pastries very much.

10. Where did you spend your last vacation?

Skiing in Austria.

11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?

I would like to go back to Sicily as last time I had just a short trip there.

12. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?

U2 was the ultimate favourite band and secondly Guns N' Roses.

I played basketball on a relatively high level but not professionally. Unfortunately, I’ve lost almost all my basketball skills by now.

13. Apart from temptation what can't you resist?

I think I can resist almost anything except temptation.

When I'm travelling by car, I do not like to be a passenger. I think it is not a temptation, am I right?

14. Red wine or white?

It is an easy one: red -  definitely.

15. Book or movie?

Movie because it is quick and immediate, but if I have time I prefer books.

16. Morning person or night person?

Night person, thus it’s hard to wake up every morning.

17. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?

Hearing and listening to each other. We do not need to agree on everything, but we need to sit down and listen to the other side's opinion. This kind of communication seems to be disappearing nowadays.

18. Buda or Pest side?

Let me refer to the first question, Buda.

19. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?

My 3 kids. Even if they are not so polite and well behaved, they like me, and I love them.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?

Humour is one of the most important qualities of humans, it helps to relax our minds.
