Fully 33% of home purchases in the capital in April were made for investment purposes, essentially the same as last April’s ratio, data from real estate broker Duna House shows. Investors who bought homes in the capital paid on average 24.6 million forints (EUR 78,500) for a 61 square metre flat in April 2016. First-time home buyers accounted for 22% of transactions in the capital.

However, the restaurant at the corner of Huszár and Munkás streets doesn’t offer a lot of ordinary things. The traditional, usually rather boring dishes are presented here in a renewed way, with a modern international flair.

Magyar Telekom’s decision to cancel a sponsorship agreement with Hungarian pop singer Ákos Kovács over his comments on the role of women in society is reminiscent of the cultural policy of Communist Hungary, the ruling Fidesz party’s parliamentary group leader said. “Comrade [György] Aczél walks among us,” Lajos Kósa said, referring to the prominent culture minister of the Communist era.

Communist-era party functionary Béla Biszku received a suspended prison sentence for complicity in war crimes. The Municipal Court of Budapest, however, exonerated him of the charges of ordering the shooting of a total of 49 anti-communist protesters in December 1956 and the beating of academics in March 1957.
