The opposition wants to know the government’s reasons behind reported plans to make the retail trade of alcohol a state monopoly. Hungary plans to extend a ban on the construction of big shopping centres in spite of an infringement procedure launched by the European Commission, daily Magyar Nemzet reports. Kristóf Szatmáry, state secretary at the economy ministry, told the paper that the continuation of the ban was justified.
