Iván Fischer, conductor of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, is one of British classical music periodical Gramophone’s ten nominees for the title of Artist of the Year. The winner will be selected by readers of the magazine and announced at an awards ceremony on September 17. Musicians who were particularly successful in the past 12 years were nominated.

One week, 19 concerts, 14 towns, thousands of people. Following its community week in June, the Budapest Festival Orchestra again intends to give free concerts all around the country, taking music to people who rarely get to concert halls or have never been to a classical music concert.

The Bridging Europe arts festival will focus on German culture during its four-day programme starting on Sept. 10 this year. The festival organised for the second time by the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra seeks to find connections between Hungarian culture and the cultures of other countries through music. Most museums, cultural institutes, thermal baths, zoos, wildlife parks and botanical gardens will be open from the late afternoon on June 21 until around 1am on the next day.
