This annual Christmas initiative by a local expat church brings together good folks from the international community to add a bit of magic to the lives of children living in 'deprived areas of Budapest'. You can experience the joy of giving by becoming an Elf for an afternoon, a reindeer told us the British Ambassador is lending a helping hand, read on for how you can get involved.

It’s the Christmas fair at BISB, where visitors could find lots of tempting Christmas goodies. As well as games and raffle prizes there was also the opportunity for photographs with Santa and Olfa.

The St Andrew's Ball is now an established Scottish entry into the year’s social calendar - thanks to lots of hard work by the St Andrew's Association team, it's becoming a well-oiled machine. Held at the Budapest Marriott Hotel last Saturday, in the main ballroom this year, it was a 'full house' expat community event.

HUF 5.356 million was raised for Hungarian charities, a record amount for this annual soiree held for the second consecutive year in the Marriott's grand ballroom, on Bonfire Night: "Remember, remember the 5th of November" as the British poem goes.

Last Thursday the Thursday Night Crowd was back in town at Jack Doyle’s. There was a very special reason for this. One of the lovely members of the Thursday night Crowd, Sylvia, was to be united with her sister that she never knew she had until this year, thanks to lots of research by Chris Clarke none the less!!

May 12, 13 and 14 are the name days of the three so-called ice saints, Pongrác, Szervác, Bonifác in the Hungarian calendar. Before weather forecast became big business and media event, Hungarian folklore created weather rhymes based on observing weather changes year by year.
Budapest Festival Orchestra To Play Heroes’ Square Again On 10 June

With over a thousand dancing feet, nearly a hundred musicians and one conductor, the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO) will once again be giving a free concert on Heroes’ Square on 10 June. The heroes of the event will be the young people, Roma and non-Roma from privileged and less-privileged backgrounds, for whom the preparations have just started all over the country.
