Greenpeace Reveals Heavy Metal Pollution Near Hortobagy National Park

Greenpeace Hungary said it has detected heavy metal contamination outside the compound of a waste disposal facility near the Hortobágy National Park in eastern Hungary. Greenpeace commissioned a local company, Isotoptech, to carry out tests outside the facility in a canal that flows into the Hortobágy river.

Bell first visited the local industrial park where she held talks with István Herdon, head of Xanga Group which operates the park, before going onto the plant of Texas-based National Instruments, the park’s first investor in 2001.

National Instruments Hungary held a topping-out ceremony at a 4-billion-forint (EUR 12.8m) science park it is building in Debrecen, in east Hungary, on Tuesday. The unit of US measurement and automation company National Instruments won 1.9 billion forints in a European Union grant for the 6,000 square metre park, said managing director László Ábrahám.
