US, Canadian Ambassadors Open Ibero-American Week In Pécs

US Ambassador Colleen Bell and Canadian Ambassador Lisa Helfand opened the 17th Ibero-American Week scientific and cultural programme in Pécs. Researchers and scholarship fellows pursuing American studies serve as an important “bridge” in US-Hungary relations, Bell said in her address at the opening.
Orbán: Govt To Spend Eur 3.9bn On Research Until 2020

The prime minister said the government is planning to spend a total of 1,200 billion forints (EUR 3.9bn) on research, development and innovation in the next four years. Addressing the opening ceremony of the general assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Viktor Orbán said that the total will bring Hungary close to the European average of research spending-GDP ratio of 1.9%.

Hungary’s Eszter Farkas has been awarded UNESCO - L’Oréal’s Rising Talent Grant to support further achievement as a young scientist. The honour was presented to Farkas at a ceremony under the organisation’s Women in Science programme in Paris.

The exhibition pays tribute to the two Hungarian personalities, marking the 150th death anniversary of Semmelweis and the 200th birth anniversary of Rómer.
