Govt To Plough Billions Of Forints Into Tourism Next Year

Central resources for tourism will reach an all-time high of 21 billion forints (EUR 67m) next year, the government’s tourism commissioner, Gusztáv Bienerth, said. The amount earmarked for various tourism schemes this year will be doubled and an additional 10 billion forints will be available through a new tourismdevelopment programme, he told a press conference.

Guest nights in Hungary rose by 6.7% to 2,208,499 in September from the same month a year earlier, a release by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) showed. The number of guest nights spent in Hungarian hotels and guesthouses went up by an annual 3.8% to 2,247,000 in May, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Tourism has proven successful as one of the driving forces of the national economy: between 1 January and 31 May, 3.4 million tourists spent a total of 7.9 million guest nights at commercial accommodation establishments.
