In reaction to the heat wave, the national meteorological service has extended its heat warning issued earlier to several counties and raised its level to second degree. Maximum temperatures on Friday afternoon were expected to be at 30 to 33 °C , which will fall no lower than 19-24 °C late in the evening.

Hungarian Gov’t Orders Ózd Water Supply Restored

Interior Minister Sándor Pintér yesterday instructed the town of Ózd to restore the water supply because of the great heat. Fidesz mayor Pál Fürjes said “everybody knows” on both the right and left wings that the town council acted in accordance with the law and that everyone has access to drinking water.

Due to the extreme heat, the weather service has issued a second-level, orange warning in the country until Saturday night. Warnings about expected thunderstorms and downpours in certain counties have been withdrawn. According to forecasts, temperatures will likely be between 30ºC and 35ºC during the afternoons and 21-27 ºC during the evenings.
